Certification as a Wilderness First Responder is the industry standard for outdoor instructors and guides. We recommend taking the full course every six years.

Course Registration
This 9-day course is sponsored by Puget Sound Outdoors, and is held on the UPS campus in Thompson Hall (building 45 on the map), room 193. Fields and some wooded areas offer ample outdoor space within walking distance of classrooms for practice simulations. More complicated and interesting simulation sites are within a short drive at Point Defiance State Park and Owen Beach. UPS does not provide transportation to off-campus simulation sites; be prepared to carpool.
Nearest Airport: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac)
Lodging: Several motel and AirBNB options are available off-campus in Tacoma
Meals: College is not in session; pack and bring lunch and snacks.
Parking: Parking is free in lot P4 off Union Avenue
