About the Clinic:
Ice Climbing is an increasingly popular activity to get outside, be active, and enjoy Minnesota’s Winters.  This clinic is appropriate for both beginner and intermediate ice climbers.  No previous experience is required.  The clinic will introduce participants to the fundamental safety, technique, and movement skills for ice climbing and will emphasize the application of these concepts.  The clinic will also cover protection systems for ice climbing, ice climbing anchors, intermediate movement techniques, and an overview of leading on ice and mixed climbing concepts.  The clinic is being presented with the support of the University of Minnesota Recreation and Wellness Department.

About the Instructor:
Bryan Karban is the Climbing and Trips Coordinator with the University of Minnesota Outdoor Program, serves on the AORE Board of Directors, and the Minnesota Climbers Association Board of Directors.  He has guided rock and ice climbing trips for both commercial companies and college outdoor programs.  Bryan has climbed all across North America and is passionate about sharing his knowledge through quality instruction.  He has seen first hand the impact outdoor recreation can have on individual development, especially young adults, and values giving back to organizations, like the AORE, that support this work.

More Information:
The clinic will meet by the picnic tables at the base of the ice covered cliffs in Robinson Park and run from 9am to 4pm. All participants must have a harness, helmet, ice climbing boots, and crampons.  The instructor will provide ice climbing tools, ropes, and anchor equipment.  If you do not have your own ice climbing equipment, it may be rented from the University of Minnesota Outdoor Program.  Rental information can be found online at recwell.umn.edu/outdoor or by calling the Outdoor Program at 612-625-8790.
