Sep 14, 2026: Building a Thriving Outdoor Workforce for America

To support the continued growth of the $1.3 trillion outdoor recreation economy and its 5.2 million American workers, the National Outdoor Recreation Workforce Consortium—led by the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable and the Brad and Alys Smith Outdoor Economic Development Collaborative at West Virginia University— is releasing outdoor workforce policy recommendations developed in collaboration with colleges, universities, industry partners, and workforce development leaders from across the United States. The webinar will feature a walk-through of the new priorities and conversations with leading workforce leaders from across the United States. This work is generously supported by The VF Foundation.

The Veterans Outdoor Recreation Summit (VORS) is a premier gathering designed to unite leaders, practitioners, and advocates dedicated to advancing veteran well being through outdoor recreation. The summit creates a dynamic environment for learning, collaboration, and action; equipping attendees with the tools, insights, and partnerships needed to expand impact within the veteran community.

VORS brings together a diverse cross sector audience, including veteran serving nonprofit leaders, outdoor industry professionals, land managers, policymakers, researchers, healthcare providers, and community builders. This intentional mix fosters meaningful dialogue and shared problem solving around some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities at the intersection of veterans, health and wellness, and the outdoors.

The summit experience features a curated program of keynote speakers, break out sessions, exhibitor expo, and facilitated networking opportunities. Sessions are designed to inspire innovation, challenge conventional approaches, and empower organizations to become more sustainable, data-driven, and community-focused in their work.

Rooted in the belief that the outdoors can restore purpose, connection, and resilience, the Veterans Outdoor Recreation Summit serves as a catalyst for strengthening the ecosystem of organizations serving veterans; ensuring greater access, deeper impact, and long term success for those who have served.

Our workshops offer supportive learning environments to explore new ideas, refresh our foundational knowledge, and apply equitable power-building skills to our work. Apply what you've learned through practical activities. Practice tools to implement into your work through reflective exercises and collaborative problem-solving. Each session will be related to an overall theme, focusing on one specific aspect of that theme. Explore real world examples and leave with tools you can implement immediately into your work.
