This webinar will focus on the medical issues relative to providing first aid in a wilderness setting while COVID-19 is active in the environment, including a discussion about transmission, challenges in rendering first aid, and practical ideas for mitigating the risk to employees.   Attorney Leah Corrigan will discuss the legal framework for employee protection planning, including an employer’s responsibilities under OSHA to provide a safe workplace, and avoiding common employer errors that might give rise to increased liability.

Nadia Kimmel MS, RN, WEMT (she/her) Leah Corrigan (she/her)
Nadia Kimmel, M.S., RN, (she/her) is the founder and executive director of Desert Mountain Medicine (DMM). She teaches wilderness medicine, develops course curricula, and consults outdoor recreation organizations in wilderness risk management. Nadia has 22 years experience as an outdoor educator for Colorado Mountain College and Colorado Outward Bound. Nadia splits her time as an outdoor professional with working in various emergency departments first as an EMT and later as an RN. She currently manages DMM in Wilson, Wyoming. Leah Corrigan, (Recreation Law Center, LLC), is a lawyer who advises and defends outdoor recreation businesses and organizations. She is an experienced litigator, having represented outdoor industry clients in serious personal injury litigation in multiple states across the West since 2009.    She advises clients such as youth camps, river outfitters, equine outfitters, and non-profit experiential education organizations on a wide range of subjects - from liability waivers to sexual harassment, emergency response planning to OSHA.  Leah spent ten years as a wilderness river guide before becoming a lawyer.
