Announcing the AORE and G Adventures Global University

Selected participants will travel to Peru for the Inca Discovery Plus – Lares Trek and partake in strategic discussions on global adventure learning

ANN ARBOR, MICH. – February 1, 2016 – The Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) and G Adventures announced today a new program in the form of a fully funded trip to Peru on the Inca Discovery Plus - Lares Trek from June 21-29, 2016. G Adventures has generously offered to fund this opportunity in support of AORE members and AORE member programs who are currently leading international trips or those looking to expand their program beyond U.S. boundaries

The AORE and G Adventures Global University is intently aimed at the academic and experiential format of global outdoor learning to foster a community of experts within outdoor recreation and education. Through working within the outdoor education community, AORE and G Adventures seek to support the appreciation of our natural environment, raise the bar of practice and performance in the global programming development and enhance the profession of outdoor recreation and education. This will be achieved by facilitating discussions on best practices and networking with industry leaders and industry experts in order to impart knowledge and inspire others while on a truly unique global adventure in Peru.

G Adventures is the leader in small group adventure tours and specializes in authentic, responsible and sustainable travel. Started in 1990, G Adventures boasts over 100,000 travelers annually and more than 670+ travel adventures in over 100 countries. After attending the 2015 AORE Annual Conference in Atlanta, G Adventures was inspired to bring their expertise to the hands of AORE members.

“We loved getting to know each and every person at the AORE Annual Conference. It was inspiring to hear of the travels of many AORE member programs and other programs that were looking for the right know-how to bring their program offerings abroad.” said Lucas Bialecki, G Adventures US Groups Business Development Manager. “What we realized was a lack of first-hand knowledge which can hold programs back from advancing abroad, costing valuable resources in planning and time, and mitigating added risk in unknown regions. G Adventures is excited to bring this ‘think-tank’ like group together for strategic learnings to advance the outdoor recreation and education industry and community.”

In the midst of the trek, two AORE representatives will facilitate group discussions on global outdoor education; its key risks, key rewards and best practices. Participants will learn first-hand from experienced industry leaders in international trips and come away with a better knowledge of how to advance their program abroad. A breathtaking setting will provide beautiful treks through Peru followed by thought-provoking lessons, all to advance the outdoor recreation and education industry and increase a key community of practice.

“Many years ago, AORE members conceptualized a professional development course where career advancement merged with an unforgettable outdoor adventure. G Adventures has given AORE members and the AORE mission a great gift by supporting our strategic pillars of advocacy, relationship engagement and education by putting this idea into action,” said Jeannette Stawski, AORE Executive Director. “It is with much excitement that I am able to see this concept come to fruition to benefit our members, our Association, and our industry as a whole.”

Those interested in the trip are encouraged to apply by the deadline of February 29. The application website can be found online by clicking here. After the application deadline, a selection committee made up of AORE and G Adventures representatives will select 12 AORE members based on application requirements. All application details can be found online by clicking here.

Those interested in applying for the trip are encouraged to join AORE and G Adventures on an online webinar this Thursday from 7:00 to 8:00pm EST. Trip information, application requirements and procedures will be discussed in detail with time for questions. Members can sign up online by clicking here.
