Sagamore Announces JOREL Publishing Partnership with AORE, WEA, and WKURK
Sagamore Publishing LLC is pleased to partner with the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE), the Wilderness Education Association (WEA), and the Western Kentucky University Research Foundation (WKURF) to become the publisher for the Journal of Outdoor Recreation, Education, and Leadership.

Champaign, IL, May 2015:  Sagamore Publishing, L.L.C., an independent publisher based in Champaign, IL, is proud to announce this partnership. Through this partnership, Sagamore Publishing will become the publisher for the prestigious Journal of Outdoor Recreation, Education, and Leadership (JOREL).

 The Journal of Outdoor Recreation, Education, and Leadership is the only peer-reviewed journal published in the United States with a specific focus on the areas of outdoor recreation, education, and leadership. The Journal was officially launched on October 31, 2008 at the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education Conference in San Diego, CA. Volume 1 Issue 1 was published in mid 2009.

The journal's mission is to improve outdoor recreation, education, and leadership through the publication and dissemination of peer-reviewed manuscripts. Publishing articles that contribute to the development of theory and practice is a guiding principle of the publication. The journal solicits high quality manuscripts from authors inside and outside of academia. Authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts (relevant to outdoor recreation, education, or leadership) in the following three categories:

  • Regular Papers: This manuscript category includes two primary divisions: (a) quantitative and/or qualitative research findings and (b) conceptual or theoretical discussions. Manuscript length is generally 20-30 (double-spaced) pages including all references, tables, and figures.
  • Essays, Practices, and Commentaries: This manuscript category focuses on critical essays; best practices; and commentaries related to philosophies, historical perspectives, policies, pedagogy, or reviews of outdoor education and leadership. Each manuscript will undergo peer review to assess the manuscript on the following primary aspects: (a) the relevance of ideas or topic to the mission of the journal, (b) significance and potential impact of the contribution, and (c) clarity of expression. Manuscript length is generally 8-10 (double-spaced) pages including all references, tables, and figures).
  • Research Notes: This manuscript category focuses on research studies presented in a condensed format or research studies which: (a) extend the understanding of a previous research study, (b) comment on prior research, (c) provide a methodological contribution, and (d) replicate or fail to replicate reported results. Manuscript length is generally 8-10 (double-spaced) pages including all references, tables, and figures.

 The Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) http://www.aore.org/ provides opportunities for professionals and students in the field of outdoor recreation and education to exchange information, promote the preservation and conservation of the natural environment, and address issues common to college, university, community, military, and other not-for-profit outdoor recreation and education programs.

The Western Kentucky University Research Foundation (WKURF) http://www.wku.edu/wkurf/ is organized to support Western Kentucky University efforts to promote the development, implementation, and coordination of extramurally sponsored programs involving research, instruction, public service, and to legally protect, manage and commercialize intellectual property resulting from research, scholarship and creative activities on behalf of Western Kentucky University.

The Wilderness Education Association (WEA) http://www.weainfo.org/ promotes the professionalism of outdoor leadership through establishment of national standards, curriculum design, implementation, advocacy, and research driven initiatives.
