West Virginia University’s Brad and Alys Smith Outdoor Economic Development Collaborative was built on the long history of success that Adventure WV had on the students and the larger university community at large. The success is evident because 17 years ago, there was one outdoor programmer on campus and today there are 24 full time staff and 6 GA’s directly working on outdoor initiatives at WVU. Join us to learn about the history and growth of Adventure WV, how that was transformed into the youth development initiative, leading to the formation of the Brad and Alys Smith Outdoor Economic Development Collaborative in 2020, which has secured over $26 million in its first year. Learn how we utilize WVU’s intellectual and social capital to leverage the state’s outdoor recreation assets to stimulate economic opportunities throughout the state to make WV a more desirable place to live, work, start a business, go to school, and visit.
